Bottlierskop, South Africa
Friday, 4th April 2014
After breakfast we left our beautiful hotel
at Plettenberg to drive to Bottlierskop.
En route we stopped at various vantage points to admire the coastal
views. The brown water you can see
running down the river is caused by the tanning in the vegetation further up
the valley. Nonetheless the water is
still pure and drinkable.
We arrived at Bottlierskop at lunchtime and
immediately sat down for a beautiful four course luncheon (see pictures).
After lunch and checking in we got into one
of the 4x4 land rovers to be taken to our accommodation, we, however, had been
allocated Cabin 20, which was one of only four cabins over the other side of
the river. This was accessed by pulling
yourself across the river on a raft made of 40 gallon oil drums (see
picture). Doreen’s first question was
are there snakes in this grass, to which the reply was “Yes madam”, she then
asked “Are they poisonous”, to which she got no reply. The luxury tents had all the facilities that
you could wish from a four star accommodation, including a bottle of sherry,
mini bar, lounge with two sofas, telephone, four poster bed, double washbasins
and a roll top bath. However we had no
television and our shower was outside in the woods!!!
We had to quickly return to the river to go
on our first evening safari. See next
blog.
