6th March – Wellington
We arrived today in Wellington a town we
had visited previously in 2008 and went on an excursion entitled “The Storm
Coast”. Our coach took us on a trip
around the large harbour to the south-east peninsular, en route spotting
mountain goats , a mummy quail and seven babies, oyster catchers and many other
birds.
After travelling along a dirt track for
about 7 miles we reached a remote farmhouse, which welcomed us with tea, coffee,
sandwiches and cakes (very tasty). From
the farmhouse we had glorious views across the harbour entrance and to the
South Island in the far distance.
The farm owner gave us a talk about the
history of the farm before he demonstrated his skills at rounding up his sheep
with his two dogs.
En route back we viewed an old wreckage and
the lighthouse taking in the beautiful views across the harbour.
On returning to the ship we caught the
Shuttle back into town for a little
retail therapy.
After returning to the ship we enjoyed the
sail away party whilst the ship sailed out of the harbour past the lighthouse
that we had viewed in the morning.
