Pago Pago - American Samoa

Monday 11th March – Pago Pago

Today we arrived at the South Pacific volcanic island of Pago Pago located in American Samoa.  Our coastal tour today was in a colourful open sided bus decorated with colourful flowers.

We stopped at various locations along the coast to admire the views where unfortunately we saw the damage that had been caused by a recent tsunami.

We then travelled to a small museum celebrating the life of Samoa’s late governor Tauese Sunia, where we were greeted by members of the family young and old.

After leaving the museum we took a short ride to Maliu Mai Beach for a drink and to take in the magnificent views.  However, it was sad to see the effects of the tsunami.

After a pleasant tour we were pleased to return to our air conditioned ship as the temperature was very hot and very humid.  After a quick lunch Doreen went ashore to look round the local market (and made a few purchases).  Geoffrey, meanwhile had found a free WiFi connection and took the opportunity to download a couple of blogs.
