Dunedin - New Zealand

4th March – Dunedin

This was a return visit for us as we had visited Dunedin on our trip in 2008.   We arrived early on a dull overcast day at yet another working port, which was at a place called Port Chalmers about 5 miles out of Dunedin.  However, we boarded our coach for a drive along the coast road towards Dunedin, first stopping at Dunedin train station.

We then travelled around seeing the sights of the city centre before visiting Olveston House. A Jacobean style house owned by a rich business man (unfortunately we were not allowed to take photographs).

On the way to the Botanical Garden our driver decided to waste 20 minutes taking us to what is reputed to be the steepest street in the world.

When we finally arrived at the Botanical Garden we were told that we only had ten minutes to look around the 72 acre Gardens!!!  Doreen was not amused.  However we ran round part of the garden spotting some unusual plants and eventually returned to the coach 5 minutes after everyone else in protest.

We arranged for the coach to drop us off in the town centre so that we could do some window shopping and get some lunch, after which we caught the shuttle bus back to the ship.

All in all a not too successful day.
