Rounding Cape Horn

Sunday, 27th January
Rounding Cape Horn

Today we reached the southern most point of South America where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Pacific Ocean.  The weather was cold and windy with winds speeds of 30 miles per hour, gusting to 40 miles per hour.  However, we had an exciting time whilst the ship circumnavigated Cape Horn, before setting sail to the Beagle Channel, which we will be transiting tomorrow and this will take twenty five hours.

The day started with relatively calm seas, but quickly deteriorated as we approached Cape Horn, as within half an hour the calm seas turned into quite rough seas from Force 5 to Force 8.  Quite choppy.
