22nd January – Montevideo
Tango and Folklore Show
After our hectic day at the ranch, we
showered and changed, ready to catch one of the ten coaches that were taking us
to dinner, tango and folklore show.
We eventually arrived at small venue at 8.45pm. After the 400 people were seated it was
obvious the venue was full to capacity, if not overfull.
Things started well as wine, rolls and our
starter were served to the table within half an hour. However, things started going wrong as after
a further hour and a half the majority of guests were still waiting for their
main course, including us. Needless to
say everyone was getting restless and one table even got up and walked out,
demanding to be taken back to the ship.
However, eventually our main course arrived
after two hours (it was now 23.00 hours), but was it really worth waiting that
long for – NO – it certainly was not.
The restaurant knew they had a problem and started serving copious amounts
of wine and rolls to try to stop a riot.
However, they started the tango and folklore show before the majority of
people had received their dinner and to be honest the show itself was not too
bad, in fact it was quite enjoyable. The
show ended after midnight with some people still waiting for their main course.
Not a very successful evening.
On the way back to the ship everyone was
complaining and the courier was very apologetic and said the kitchens just
could not cope with so many people.
However, when we woke up in the morning there was a letter under our
door from P & O, apologizing for the disastrous evening and offered 100%
refund of the £152 cost. So all in all
Geoffrey has decided it was a very good free night out.
