Nha Trang, Vietnam
12th March 2014.
This morning we arrived early in Nha Trang
and dropped anchor next to the cable car to the island of Vin Pearl that Andrew
visited a few years back. Our trip today
was Nha Trang Highlights, where we boarded a coach, drove out of the port entrance and immediately turned right to the
Oceanographic Institute our first stop (we could have walked it quicker from
the ship). Here we saw many examples of
marine life that live in the local seas.
We were especially interested in the fish that tried to look like the
coral it lived amongst.
Our next stop was a local Catholic church
in the middle of town, where we were surrounded by local trades people selling
their wares and Dad bought three “Ralph Lauren” polo shirts for $10.00 and Mum
bought a fan for $2.00, which was needed as the temperature was up in the low
30s.. As you can see the temperatures
have improved since Halong Bay.
Next we went to the Long Son Pagoda, the
oldest pagoda in Nha Trang, where Geoffrey again climbed the 150 steps to see
the Buddha. Afterwards we ventured to
the silk embroidery workshop, where we saw the Vietnamese ladies producing
beautiful silk pictures some of which take months to complete. Alas our budget did not allow us to purchase
the embroidery of the koi fish shown in the photograph but we did buy a smaller
souvenir of our visit.
On the way to our next stop the Po Nagar
Cham Tower (built in the 8th Century) with views over Nha Trang, we
drove along the waterfront admiring the beautiful beaches.
Our visit would not be complete without a
visit to the market, so we spent an hour strolling through the Dam market
place, dodging the motor scooters that were just about everywhere.
Altogether Nha Trang was a very interesting
stop.
