Langkawi – Malaysia
20th March 2014
Again Doreen had reviewed our planned
excursion and decided she could not manage a trip on the steepest cable car in
the world to the top of Machincang Mountain, so Doreen went on her own to an excursion, via an Eagle
Park, Rubber Plantation, a mausoleum of a martyred princess ending in a visit
to a beautiful batik handicraft studio.
Geoffrey’s first stop was to a rice padi
field, where he learnt how they produce rice.
An interesting stop.
Then we stopped for half an hour at a
Marina area, which was full of luxury yachts, before driving to the foot of the
Machincang Mountain, where we had our first sight of the cable car going up to
the peak.
Geoffrey boarded the six seater capsule and
started the 15 minute climb to the top and even he had to swallow hard as we
left the last pylon to climb at 42 degrees to the top. However, the views were magnificent from the
top, which made the journey well worth while.
On returning to the ship Geoffrey waited
for Doreen to return from her excursion so we could have lunch and sit on our
balcony and watch the sailaway from Langkawi.
A beautiful area which is reported to have
the best beaches in Malaysia, well worth a future visit.
