Mauritius
28th March 2014
Today we arrived at the Honeymoon Island of
Mauritius and elected to do the excursion entitled Southern Delights. Our ship docked at Port Louis on the north-west coast.
Our tour today was to the southern part of
the island, where our first stop was at the Trou aux Cerfs crater, an extinct
volcano, a rather disappointing crater, but it did give us views across the
island.
No tour would be complete without a trip to
a Hindu Temple, alongside a lake, with historical links to the Ganges in
India.
Our next stop was at the Black River Gorges
viewpoint, with breathtaking views over Maurtius, where we stopped for a
delicious buffet lunch.
After a relaxing lunch admiring the views,
we went to see the Chamarel Waterfall, where the coach driver dug Doreen up a
seedling of a Royal Palm to try to grow back in England.
Our final visit of the tour was to see the
unusual natural outcrop of seven coloured earths, certainly an unusual sight,
where we also made friends with a giant tortoise, that had been imported from
the Seychelles.
With this excursion, we don’t feel we did
this beautiful island justice as we did not see any of the beautiful coastline
that Mauritius is famous for. Perhaps we
will see them next time.

This made me quite nostalgic as these were all places that Tom and I visited while on our honeymoon....a beautiful place!
