5th February – Valparaiso
We woke up to a dull dismal foggy day in
Valparaiso. Fortunately our excursion to
the winery did not start to 10.00am, so we had a relaxed breakfast before going
ashore to catch our coach.
Our tour commenced with a drive to Vina del
Mar, the local seaside resort, passing numerous trees imported from Brazil
called Ulmo (I think). The Floral Clock before arriving at the Fonck Museum
featuring artefacts from Chile and Easter Island.
We then had a half hour drive through the
countryside to visit a Casablanca Winery, including, of course, sampling the
goods………/.,\’]= hic!
We spent a pleasant hour and half learning
about the making of wine and walking around the winery before returning to our
ship.
Our original intention was to visit the
town in the afternoon but decided against this after viewing the town from the
coach. So we got back on board and are
pleased to say the weather had improved so we went out on deck and sat in the
sun for an hour.
We now have nine days at sea before we
reach our next port of call, Papeete., although we will be swinging past Easter
Island and Pitcairn Island en route.
With all this time on our hands we had an
opportunity to start planning our next cruise (sorry Nicola).
