Bora Bora
We arrived early in the morning and the
Captain navigated the narrow passage through the coral reef passing one of the
many spectacular hotels typical of the area.
With some trepidation we boarded our 4 x 4
landrover for a tour around the island.
Soon our worst fears materialized as we turned off the main round and
seemed to drive vertically up the side of the mountain over a very bumpy and
deeply rutted road. However, we were
rewarded with beautiful views when we reached the top.
We came back down the mountain to a small
market where we tasted the local fruits and Geoffrey had the luxury of using a
beautifully decorated gents toilet (see photo).
All
too soon we were off again up another mountain, which seemed steeper and
rougher than the first, where we all had to hang on for grim death. Again we were rewarded with spectacular views
across the multi coloured lagoons.
We then returned down the mountain and we
were relieved to drive along the normal road continuing our trip
circumnavigating the beautiful island, calling in at the Bora Pearl Company,
where they showed us how they farmed the pearls.
Our last stop was at Bloody Mary’s
Restaurant where we had sampled a Virgin Bloody Mary (no alcohol).
We then arrived back at the port rather
battered and bruised, but none the less
we had had a good time.
We then headed out of Bora Bora looking
forward to three sea days to recover.
